Balloons in Cappadocia

To see this was one reason I got out of bed really early in the morning when it was still -1 degrees, to stand on the outdoor breakfast terrace, camera in hand:

At first it was just a dozen balloons peeking out behind the canyon...

While others on the far side of the city were just getting started

By 6:45am, they started taking to the sky

more and more were coming up from all over

and soon the whole sky was full! We counted more than 60 balloons our first morning!

We didn't do our own balloon tour. It just wasn't in our itinerary and I think I'm waiting for the next time I go back in the spring. This was my second time in Cappadocia and both were in winter. I'd like to take a hot air balloon ride when the valleys are green, although I heard its beautiful from that view point all year round. And there are certainly enough balloon companies to supply the demand.
