Last weekend we had a friend visiting. For her brief two days in Istanbul, both O and I had some horrible food poisoning. She went out on her own while we hung out with a blue plastic bucket. She and I did get a chance to go into Sultanahmet a bit before I actually knew I was sick...
It had been awhile since I was last in Hagia Sofia. Last time there was ugly scaffolding occupying the center as they made attempts to repair the dome. Its one of those buildings that really difficult not to like. Its gorgeous and massive and so full of rich history.
Thanks to the muzekart I got in for free. Next year April they're raising the prices of admission to most Sultanahmet attractions, folks!
We did some shopping in the Spice Bazaar and walked out with some great supplies. We had so many plans to go out for dinner that evening, Bosporus tour for the following day, but instead I went to the Emergency Room. Again. I had a fever of more than 104 (40celsius+) and so despite being sick himself, O tossed me over his shoulder, down 5 flights of stairs, into the back of a cab and to the hospital where they stuck my arm full of tubes and I sweated it out under fluorescent lights. Fantastic Sunday evening.
I have more friends coming in February and will try not to disappoint with any illnesses! Then in April we are going to go Adana-Mersin before having more family coming the following weekend. Then off to Paris for a 4 day weekend. And so and so forth.

Don't forget to buy the muzekart+ next time. The ordinary muzekart will only let you in to each museum once a year.
ReplyDeleteWe just learned that! What a bummer. I think I'll have to space things out as friends and family some to visit. The muzekart+ is a must next year after the prices for most places is going up 5-10tl.
